CHANGE
The original video posted by Daniel Madison in 2007 caused a thunderstorm of controversy in the magic industry and brought up an entire myriad of questions... Is it real, is it gimmicked, is it impromptu, where can I buy it?
Since the video was posted, there have been many attempts to recreate the colour change and so far, although there are many that come close, the method is yet to be discovered by anybody.
CHANGE 2008
In 2008, Daniel decided to make another video to offer answers to some of the questions. However, some deceptions were at play and Daniels video was designed to misguide people from the actual method, injecting more and more controversy into existing theories of the flawless colour change.

Over the past 4 months we received an overwhealming 500+ video entries, all of which were amazing and highly entertaining and I was so happy see so many people put so much effort into their interpritations of the effect.
A colour-change, by definintion in magic, is the instant change of one card to another. My aproach to the premis of this introduced rules that should have been there from the beginning, that should have been applied to every existing change... The card should not be covered at any point... The change should be instant... There should be - or appear to be - only one card in play; meaning that the deck should be placed aside... The card in use should be inspectable. If you closelly follow these rules you end up with a change just like CHANGE or those that were submitted for the contest... Fair and pure in magic and performance.
With CHANGE I never expected the level of interest, publicity and speculation, the effect soon became one of the most talked about videos in the industry and gained interest from the most respected artists and magic shops.
There are many ways to replicate CHANGE, most entries simply used a Blink gimmick or similar where others used video editing. No matter how any of the entries were acheived the one thing I wanted to point out is that no part of any effect matters beyond the effect it has on the spectators, as the mechanics and methods hold importance only to the performer, and magic is not about the performer, it's about the audience and how they are affected. And so with CHANGE, all that we were looking for was the best outcome, the best video that could be scrutinised and frame-stepped to find any flaws without luck, and checking each video was a lot of fun.
I chose my top 5 videos, and although i did not decide on the winner, I couldn't be more happier with the results...
These 5 videos were viewd by several close friends of mine who reached a unannimous decision on the winner and the runner-ups which are posted on the next page.
Thank you everybody who took part in the contest, it was overwhealming to be part of something that was shared by so many fellow artists, commiserations to those who didn't qualify; don't get rid of your videos just yet, i'll be hosting a CHANGE COMPETITION ENTRIES page to show off some of my personal favourites.
